Exploratory – STEAM / Communications in Media – This elective course covers two topics and switches at the semester mark. Students take one semester of STEAM and one semester of Communications in Media. Students must take both courses. The STEAM semester of the class focuses on exploring topics in science, technology, engineering, art, and math, within a project-based format. The Communications in Media semester of the class focuses on learning how to utilize a number of educational apps (Explain Everything, iMovie, Animation Desk, and Keynote), to create presentations and short movies.
Leadership – Learn to be a leader while helping your school! Organize spirit days, lunch-time activities, fundraisers, community service projects, and more!
Beginning Band – Students who are new to music or have played instruments before are welcome to join band. Students perform in two concerts each year, and are required to practice a minimum of 3 times per week.
Advanced Band (7th/8th grade only) – This class is open to all students who have completed Beginning Band. You will play a variety of challenging and entertaining music, and also perform in several concerts throughout the year. Students will take field trips to participate in festivals and special events. Advanced Band is a serious class that requires hard work and a passion for music. Students are required to practice a minimum of 5 times per week.
Exploratory – Current Events / Creative Explorations – This elective course covers two topics and switches at the semester mark. Students take one semester of Current Events and one semester of Creative Explorations. Students must take both courses. The Current Events semester of the class will examine “hot” topics brought forth by the media! Students will learn to research and present topics to the class through a use of technology. Public speaking and debating skills will be taught, and students will learn to communicate their knowledge of current event topics in a variety of ways. The Creative Explorations semester of the class will allow students to express their creativity through a variety of hands-on activities and projects, and explore artistic influence throughout time.
Exploratory – Yearbook – Students in Yearbook will have the opportunity to plan and design the Hamilton Middle School yearbook! This class will incorporate all aspects of the yearbook process, including photography, graphic design, and orders/sales. Join Yearbook and be a part of making memories for Hamilton Middle School!
Restorative Justice (Peer Court) – Students learn how to guide their peers in making good choices. Students are taught how to ask reflective questions and assign appropriate restorative consequences.
Jazz Band – (7th/8th grade only) – Students will play technically challenging music and learn how to play in various jazz styles, as well as learn how to improvise and solo on their instrument. Jazz Band will participate in additional field trips and music festivals.
