As many of you know, one of our strong values at Hamilton K-8 School is community service.  We not only want our students to have a strong educational foundation but we also want them to have the knowledge and tools to make our world a better place.  During mid-winter break, 17 courageous middle school students and 2 high school students joined Ms. Madsen, Mrs. Parnell and me on an adventure to San Diego to work with a group called B2Live to learn more about homelessness,  the food inequities within our community and to visit organizations who are taking on the ever-increasing refugee crises.

I couldn’t have been prouder of our students as they courageously served the neediest within San Diego.   We worked day and night to prepare and serve meals, and lend a helping hand where ever it was needed.  Most importantly, we learned that those living on the street and or seeking refuge are most often just like us and that we all can make a difference in the most complicated injustices in our community.
