Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)

AVID trains educators to use proven practices in order to prepare students for success in high school, college, and a career, especially students traditionally underrepresented in higher education.  AVID brings research‐based strategies and curriculum to educational institutions in elementarysecondary, and higher education.  AVID Provides educators with training and methodologies that develop students’ critical thinking, literacy, and math skills across all content areas throughout the entire campus.

AVID:

  • Teaches skills and behaviors for academic success
  • Provides intensive support with tutorials and strong student/teacher relationships
  • Creates a positive peer group for students
  • Develops a sense of hope for personal achievement gained through hard work and determination

Project Based Learning (PBL)

PBL is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge.

GATE Clusters – Gifted and Talented Education

A Gate Clusters support students who have been identified as GATE.  This is usually a group of three to ten identified students, usually, those in the top 5% of ability in the grade level population, are clustered in a mixed-ability classroom. The teacher has had training in how to teach exceptionally capable students.   Our GATE clusters are present if 4th and 5th grade.
